AGM & Volunteer Appreciation Dinner

At our 2014 RCCS Youth Group Annual General Meeting, it was a surprise to announce that this year’s Cabinet will be the same for next year. Christy Liu takes on the role as President again, working together with Stanley Li as Vice President, Monica Ho as Treasurer, and Sherlock Lau as Secretary for one more year. This has got to be one of the smoothest elections we’ve had so far!

To celebrate a year of volunteering, a few days later, volunteers attended this year’s RCCS AGM & Volunteer Appreciation Dinner and Dance. The parent group, RCCS, treats their volunteers to a dinner and dance every year to show their appreciation. Once again, our well-known MCs Monica and Christy take on the roles as MC again for this event. Volunteers were also presented certificates, with a couple members that stood out amongst the group. Christopher Ng, Monica Ho, and Christy Liu were each presented a special award for their achievements in the group. Congratulations!

This year, instead of just eating, dancing, and helping out at the event, we decided to sing a song as a group to the crowd to show our friendship and joy of volunteering. We sang “Never Had a Dream Come True” by S CLUB 7 and the audience cheered at us loudly! Although we went off tune at times, we all gathered together and sang our hearts out. It was definitely a memorable night!

Children Drawing Contest 2014

This year, we collaborated with our parent group, RCCS, to host the annual Children Drawing Contest was held last Saturday at Lansdowne. The topics included “My Heart Healthy Lunchbox” for the junior group and “Road to a Healthy Heart” for the youth group. By hosting this contest, we not only provide a platform for local young artists, whose talents may not be well supported in the community, to showcase their talents, but also help raise the awareness of cardio health! There were over 80 young contestants, and many people visited our game booths for free prizes! We had many enthusiastic volunteers that helped out at the booths, and other youth organizations such as Scouts Canada attended as well.

What attracted the most people was definitely our own photo booth! People gathered together with their friends and family and made fun and silly poses along with our hilarious props. Most of our photos featured our popular and photogenic teddybear mascot — everyone wanted him in their photos!

RCCS Youth Icebreaker!

Posted: 8th September 2014 by RCCS Youth in General Anouncements

Thanks for attending RCCS Youth Icebreaker!

RCCS Youth Group had their very first Icebreaker on Saturday, August 23!! This event was targeted towards young teens, who are seeking volunteer opportunities to develop skills in leadership and teamwork building. Fortunately, we are a group dedicated to provide valuable leadership-related experiences. The Youth Group has three main goals: to develop youth leaders through volunteer opportunities and leadership workshops, to contribute to the society by raising awareness towards the homeless, and to establish strong friendship bonds between members. We also mingled with each other through classic “minute to win it” games, which helped to ease off the nervousness and awkwardness between new and old members. And just like that, new friendships were formed. Overall, we believe it was a great success!

Thank you to all the attendees who supported the Icebreaker. We cannot wait to have you join us at our next event!!
